Sales Engineer

Job Descriptions:

Although this role will report through division HQ (Waco, TX), the ideal candidate will be located in Michigan in a fully remote capacity.

Role Summary

This position will lead and accelerate the development of a strong collaborative partnership between Howmet Fastening Systems and industries such as automotive and truck. This role will be responsible for the coverage and penetration of large national accounts and the implementation of major sales and technology developments. This individual will also interface regularly with HFS Engineering & Marketing teams to aggressively grow the Howmet Technology Advantage within the fastener product space and commercialize new fastener technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, initiate, implement and drive to conclusion the development of mechanical fastener concepts and solutions to meet the emerging needs of targeted growth industries.
  • Responsible for the coverage and penetration of large national accounts and the implementation of major sales/promotional programs.
  • Build collaborative relationships with Howmet customers, becoming integrated with Howmet’s industrial facing resources to develop robust and sustainable customer intimacy
  • Identify and assess new and emerging technologies that present opportunities for, or threats to, Howmet’s business interests and execute strategies to positively position Howmet.
  • Support customers with troubleshooting support through detailed analysis of fastener and installation system problems and deploy corrective actions.
  • Provides assistance with sales, technical, and/or application training as it applies to specific customers or industries.
  • Provides coverage for the largest national accounts and/or major distributors requiring a high level of sales attention.
  • Leads penetration efforts directed toward new business target accounts and/or industry segments.
  • Identifies new business opportunities and tracks sales progress toward objectives.
  • Participates with senior Sales & Marketing leaders with the development of major industry-specific sales, marketing and business plans, forecasts and promotional programs.
  • Provide feedback to Operations management on opportunities for manufacturing process improvements that improve safety, produce higher quality, reduce costs, or increase productivity.
  • Participate as a key member of cross-functional teams to engage in product design and commercialization and manufacturing process improvement activities in support of business strategy implementation.
  • Recommends strategic addition of new products and the modification or deletion of present products in assigned area of responsibility.
  • Implements sales and promotional programs, new product information, and related efforts directed toward a specific major industry or customer base.
  • Compiles and submits accurate sales reports on a timely basis.
  • Works with minimum guidance and direction form Sales & Marketing leaders, proactively performing assigned duties in accordance with company performance standards.
  • Ensure all work activities are performed in accordance with established safety and environmental standards.
  • Maintain full compliance with Company policies and procedures and conduct all work activities in accordance with the Howmet Guide to Business Conduct.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree is required, preferred to be in Mechanical, Structural or Materials Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in the design and commercialization of high volume metal product technologies, preferably in the field of automotive or structural fasteners and installation tools.
  • Strong interpersonal/team skills to build positive relationships with people internal/external to the organization.
  • Ability to work effectively with customers, peers, and senior-level leaders.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and persuasion skills.
  • Organizational skills to complete a variety of tasks and assignments in an effective manner.
  • Good communication skills to convey a range of information clearly and effectively in both verbal and written formats.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint is required.
  • Able to safely drive own or company vehicles to perform assigned duties.
  • Able to travel approximately 50% of the time using both personal and public conveyances.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience of working within the automotive/heavy truck sector
  • Strong familiarity with automotive assembly methods, materials and product forms
  • A background in the fastener/nut & bolt industry advantageous
  • Problem-solving skills to arrive at reliable conclusions based on analysis of factual information.
  • Experience working with N.A. Automotive and Truck, OEM’s and Tiers
