Director, Assistant General Counsel – Insurance Recovery Litigation
As a Director, Assistant General Counsel – Insurance Recovery Litigation, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. As a member of 3M’s world-class Litigation team, you will partner closely with 3M’s Insurance Department and other groups on complex, cutting-edge insurance recovery disputes.
Here, you will make an impact by:
- Refining a unified insurance recovery strategy across multiple complex insurance claims
- Communicating with C-suite executives on insurance recovery strategy on a regular basis
- Managing day-to-day aspects of complex insurance recovery disputes including engaging and managing outside counsel, participating in mediations and other settlement meetings, and obtaining input from stakeholders as necessary
- Closely managing claims allocation processes, including managing allocation consultants and obtaining information necessary for claims allocation
- Advising on other insurance issues, including program structure, policy procurement strategy, policy language, claims notifications, claims preparation, and communications with insurers
- Advising and assisting insurance department on records retention and management
- Collaborating and maintaining relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including senior executives, the insurance department, environmental health & safety, insurance brokers, and various other business groups and functions
- Partnering with Government Affairs and other groups on policy issues and advocacy

Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate and be admitted to practice in any state in the U.S.
- Ten (10) years of experience at a law firm, corporate legal department, insurance company, insurance brokerage firm, or risk management department
- Seven (7) years of experience litigating complex insurance recovery disputes, with 10+ years preferred
Director, Assistant General Counsel – Insurance Recovery Litigation
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Experience arbitrating disputes under integrated-occurrence (Bermuda form) policies
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate claims directly with senior executive level counterparties at insurance companies
- Experience with captive insurers
- Experience managing outside counsel
- Experience managing to a budget and alternative fee arrangements

Applicable to US Applicants Only:The expected compensation range for this position is $259,007 – $316,564, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience.
